I can talk about this all day as I went through this all my life. Basically, the Indian education system teaches you how to kill your dreams & become a slave of the grading system. When I was a kid, my teacher asked everyone in the classroom about our future aspirations.
Many of them said pilot, doctor, engineer, someone said lawyer also. However, these were not our aspirations. These were the words which were put inside of us by teachers, parents, society. Because, in India, either you can be a doctor, engineer, lawyer, CA or a FAILURE. There is no other way out.
I was raised in a similar fashion. So today when I write for you all & think things differently, I am a FAILURE for everyone around me.
I remember when I was a kid, me & my friends would sit in the park & dream about the things we would like to do. I wanted to get into fine arts & he wanted to be a soldier. But none of us could follow our dreams & ended up somewhere else. When you grow up the first thing people (parents, teachers, society) do, they kill your dreams. They will make you a lab rat & will push you to get good grades.
They focus more on theoretical knowledge than practical. Ranks do not assure sustainability in today’s world.
India has a population of about 133 crores. There are about 31 million eligible people who are jobless. This data does not include the people who are not registered. Yes, the population is an issue however, our education system plays a major role in this as well. A lot of eligible & educated people are jobless or are into doing odd jobs.
Roughly, everyone one studies the same thing in the first 15 years of their life. After that they all try for good colleges. Good colleges also take students who already had great ranks as they do not want their yearly performance to go down. Instead, they should be focusing on making people professionals that enhancing their memorizing skills.
So please do not make your kid a lab rat. Give him/her an education system where the foundations are right. Instead of pushing them to get good marks, point them in a direction where they can groom themselves as per their choice.
Everybody is a Genius. But If You Judge a Fish by Its Ability to Climb a Tree, It Will Live Its Whole Life Believing that It is Stupid.
